There is no doubt that in time Koombana will be found, but the task is daunting given the potential search block and methodology required. It is a no-brainer, R.V. Investigator is the vessel capable of such a task. I have been told that mapping the seafloor of the North West Australian coast is a priority for the future and locating Koombana could naturally be a piggy-back project. But that future appears to be years from now. Patience is an essential component of elucidating this century-old mystery.
Frustratingly for an onlooker such as myself, R.V. Investigator traversed the area most likely to contain Koombana - Boxing Day, 2019.
